Counseling

ACPA School Counselors

At ACPA, the school counselors seek to address the academic, college and career, and personal/social needs of students. Every student is capable of succeeding in these three areas, and the counseling program is aimed at identifying barriers to student success and empowering students to overcome those barriers. The school counseling program is consistent with American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and aligns with the mission and vision of ACPA. We believe students have the right to be safe, to be respected, and to learn at high levels in both art and academic programs.

Social Worker vs. School Counselor: Which one is right for my needs?

School Counselors support students in academic achievement, social-emotional wellness and career/school planning (like high school and college). They can help with things like:

  • If you are being bullied or know someone who is
  • If you are new to the school and having a tough time
  • If you are upset about a family problem
  • If you are having trouble with homework
  • If you are having trouble with friends
  • if you need some time to self-regulate or de-stress in the counselor's office
Reach out to your designated Social Worker for:
  • Mental / Behavioral health / Social Emotional services and resources
  • Psychiatric / Behavioral crisis or emergencies
  • Linkage to community-based resources
Hello, I’m Mr. Burt! After being the High School Counseling Intern last year, I couldn’t be more thrilled to enter my first year as the full-time Middle School Counselor. I teach the 8th grade social emotional learning course with an emphasis on building self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and school belonging. I will also be working with students and families on an individual level to support their academic, social, emotional, and career goals. Outside of ACPA, I love running, movies, music, video games, and just about anything else pop culture-related. Feel free to reach out any time!
